The United Nations says that unprecedented famine and drought in Somalia is threatening the lives of hundreds of thousands of children.

The UN representative to Somalia says that more than half a million malnourished children in the Horn of Africa risk imminent death.

The world body also says a quarter of Somalia's 7.5 million people have been displaced.

Hundreds of thousands of Somalis have fled their homes to nearby UN camps in search of food.

Meanwhile, Iran has sent a second humanitarian aid convoy to drought-stricken Somalia. Iran's foreign minister says his country also plans to donate 25-million dollars to help with relief efforts.
