A FEMALE ambulance driver was beaten with a metal pole during a savage road rage attack.
The 37-year-old victim from Langwarrin in Victoria - on her way to work as an ambulance employee - was driving her car on Skye Rd, Frankston, when she was tailgated for 3km by a man in a blue Holden Commodore.
As they approached the intersection of Frankston Freeway at about 9.40pm, the man got out of his car and argued with the woman.
Police said he allegedly struck her repeatedly in the head and dragged her out of the car before returning to his vehicle and producing a metal pole.
He then allegedly proceeded to beat the woman, leaving her with facial injuries, bruising and swelling.
Witness Colin Betts attempted to break up the fight, and said he was lucky not to have been beaten himself.
"It was like he was possessed by the devil," Mr Betts said.
"He just went into a rage. It was like watching a wild animal fighting - it was terrible."
When Mr Betts intervened verbally, the alleged attacker stared him down before fleeing.
After the harrowing assault, the victim drove herself to hospital.
The alleged attacker is described as Caucasian, aged in his 20s, about 165cm tall, with brown crew-cut hair and a distinctive gap between his teeth.
At the time of the offence he was wearing a long-sleeved top.

Police urge anyone with information to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
