Jordan's Prime Minister Maaruf Bakhit on Friday blasted the Islamist opposition and said they were trying to "create chaos" and were getting orders from Egypt and Syria after a day of bloody clashes.

"We have invited the Muslim Brotherhood for talks, away from protests and demonstrations, but apparently they have agenda to create chaos in the country," Bakhit told the state-run Jordan Television.

A man died and 130 people were injured on Friday as pro-reform protesters and government supporters clashed in Amman, prompting police to use water cannons to disperse them, medics said.

"The government has accurate information that the Muslim Brotherhood has mobilized the protesters," Bakhit said.

"What happened today is definitely the start of chaos and it is unacceptable and I warn of the consequences," he added.

The prime minister said the Islamists "receive orders from Egypt and Syria to carry out schemes against Jordan."

Addressing the Islamists, he said: "I ask you, where are you taking Jordan?"

A popular revolt in Egypt has ousted president Hosni Mubarak in February, while several protesters have been killed in clashes with police in Syria this past week.
