A man believed to be fugitive war crimes suspect Ratko Mladic has been arrested, an official from the Serbian interior ministry has said.

"He has some physical features of Mladic. We are analysing his DNA now," an unnamed official told the Reuters news agency.

Serbia's war crimes prosecutor refused to confirm or deny the reports, but Boris Tadic, Serbia's president, will hold a press conference later on Thursday.

Mladic, former Bosnian Serb wartime leader,  is wanted by the United Nations war crimes tribunal for the former Yugoslavia for genocide during the 1992-95 Bosnian conflict.
His arrest is seen a precondition of Serbia joining the European Union.
