A man has been dragged out of his house and beaten to death by a mob near New Delhi over rumours that his family killed and ate a cow, the victim’s brother has told Al Jazeera.
Mohammed Akhlaq, 52, a resident of Bisara village in Gautam Budh Nagar, about 40km from the Indian capital, was attacked on Monday night.
He died of his injuries early on Tuesday while his 22-year-old son Mohammed Danish was admitted to a nearby hospital in a critical condition.
“My brother threw goat’s kin in the garbage dump. But some people circulated a rumour that a cow was slaughtered and an announcement was made from the local temple,” Mohammed Saifi, the victim's brother, said.
“Soon a mob of about 1,000 people, armed with lathis [baton] and swords, gathered and attacked the house of my brother.
“They did not even spare my 82-year-old mother, who has suffered injuries along with Akhlaq’s wife and daughter Sajida Saifi,” he said.
The attack on Akhlaq, a Muslim, comes as tensions increase between Hindus and religious minorities in the Uttar Pradesh state, where the incident occurred.
Sacred cow
Beef is not illegal in Uttar Pradesh but cow slaughter is banned as the animal is considered sacred for Hindus, who form about 80 percent of India’s 1.3 billion population.
Kiran S, a senior police officer of Gautam Budh Nagar, told Al Jazeera that six suspects had been arrested over Monday night's attack.
Relatives mourned Akhlaq [Reuters]
"The situation right now is calm and force has been deployed in the area," he said.
India is the world's largest exporter of beef and its fifth biggest consumer but Prime Minister Narendra Modi's government wants a nationwide ban on cow slaughter and the beef trade, which is run mostly by Muslims.
Since Modi’s Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) came to power last May, a number of attacks on minorities, including Muslims and Christians, have been linked to Hindu far-right organisations.
Last year, Hindu groups launched a campaign to convert Christians and Muslims to Hinduism dubbed as ghar wapsi [home coming], while many churches came under attack.
"The rhetoric about cow protection had emboldened some people to act as vigilantes," police officer Anurag Kumar, who is investigating the lynching, told Reuters.
"The incident is shocking," he said. "The Hindu mob felt they had a licence to kill."
Siddarth Varadarajan, the editor of thewire.in, said "the ruling party [BJP] at one level has contributed to the frenzy over the idea that cows are endangered and that they are being indiscriminately slaughtered".
"This kind of communalisation and the frenzy that has been built over the issue of beef is very unfortunate," he told Al Jazeera.
"I don’t know in this particular issue, which groups are involved but when you create a climate of hysteria then these kinds of incidents happen."
Villagers fearful
The Uttar Pradesh government, which has been criticised for not doing enough to control the recent religious unrest, announced compensation of 1 million rupees ($15,256) to the victim’s family and promised full security.
But the 20-25 Muslim families in the village are living in fear, as they had not seen this kind of violence in their lifetime.
"I screamed and shouted to tell the mob that we did not eat beef, and they should stop beating my father and my brother, but they pushed me away," Sajida, who witnessed the attack, told the Reuters news agency.
"My brother was dragged to the courtyard downstairs and they used bricks to hit him on the head and chest, leaving him unconscious. They also tried to molest me and hit my grandmother on her face. They threatened to kill me if I said a word to the police," Sajida told the Indian Express newspaper.
Police officer Kiran S said that the police were investigating which organisations were involved and how the incident happened.
"What prompted them to do this, as otherwise they lived in perfect harmony," he said.
So far, India’s prime minister has not commented on the issue.
"The prime minister has been silent for the past 14-15 months other than criticising one of his ministers. It’s unfortunate that they are not taking it seriously. The kind of cultivated hysteria is going to lead to more violence,” senior journalist Varadarajan said.

A mob in India just dragged a man from his home and beat him to death — for eating beef

The Washington Post

Mohammad Akhlaq was in bed when the mob arrived.
The commotion began in the distance, but crept closer and closer like encroaching thunder. Suddenly, there was a pounding at the door. Then the door broke inwards and men dragged the 50-year-old farmer from his sheets and into the street, according to the Indian Express.
They beat him with bricks found underneath his own bed; beat him until the bricks broke in their hands; beat him until Mohammad was dead.
Akhlaq’s alleged crime?
Eating beef.
The attack on Monday night in the northern Indian city of Dadri has shocked the country, but it wasn’t exactly a surprise. For the past six months, meat has been a matter of major debate in India.
Eighty percent of the country’s of 1.3 billion inhabitants are Hindu — who avoid beef for religious reasons. Roughly 250 million Indians are not. That tally includes almost 25 million Christians and up to 140 million Muslims, like Akhlaq.
The issue has raged in India for years. Since Prime Minister Narendra Modi came to power last May, however, incidents have increased, as they tend to do whenever a conservative government has been in power.
Modi is a Hindu nationalist who, as governor of Gujarat state, presided during religious riots in 2002 in which more than 1,000 people — most of them Muslims — were killed. For years afterwards, Modi was blocked from visiting the United States because of his role in the riots.
[New Indian leader draws cheers, criticism from diaspora as he arrives in the U.S.]
All that changed last year, however, when Modi and his Hindu nationalist Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) swept to power. Modi campaigned on a vision of India finally fulfilling its economic potential — a promise highlighted by his recent tour of Silicon Valley.
Yet, critics claim Modi’s tenure also has been marked by a concerted cultural shift that undermines secularism and threatens to drag India back into sectarian bloodshed.
In the past, Modi has complained about India’s “pink revolution” of rising meat exports and backed the idea of a national ban on cow slaughter, according to the BBC.
Since Modi’s election, Muslims have grown worried about a string of inflammatory statements and actions by Hindu nationalist leaders. Accused Islamist terrorists have been executed ahead of non-Muslims, stirring anger. Meanwhile, BJP lawmakers have openly called for Hindus to out breed Muslims to “protect Hindu religion.” That same politician, Sakshi Maharaj, invited outrage when he called Mahatma Gandhi’s assassin a “patriot.” (Nathuram Godse was a militant Hindu activist who killed Gandhi for “appeasing” Muslims.) Finally, India’s foreign minister has called for the Bhagavad Gita, a Hindu scripture, to be declared a “national scripture.”
Hindu leaders have also launched efforts to convert Muslims and Christians to Hinduism and warned against romantic relationships with members of other religions.
It is beef that has drawn the most blood, however.
India’s 36 states and territories have long been a patchwork quilt when it comes to their laws regarding beef. Some said that only old cows could be killed. Others allowed only bulls or bullocks to be sent to the butcher.
In the past 15 months, however, many states have tightened their laws — with encouragement from Modi’s political party.
The most prominent example is the western state of Maharashtra, home to the bustling metropolis of Mumbai and many of the country’s Muslims. Under BJP leadership, the state passed the Maharashtra Animal Preservation Bill back in 1996 but it was blocked from becoming law because president Shankar Dayal Sharma of the Opposition Congress Party refused to approve it.
With Modi’s election last year, however, times have changed. And in March of this year, BJP members in Maharashtra convinced the current president to approve the law.
The move effectively banned beef overnight, putting thousands of predominantly Muslim butchers out of a job and putting anyone eating beef in the state at risk of arrest.
Despite legal challenges to the ban, the new law immediately brought results. Just days after the law’s implementation, two people were arrested for allegedly slaughtering two calves, the BBC reported. Last month, four more people were accused of smuggling beef into Mumbai, according to the Indian Express.
The crackdown on cow-eating is driven by a desire for religious/national purity, but critics point out that it’s already creating political and practical problems.
“Some Hindu hard-liners insist the idea of eating beef was introduced by Muslim invaders, despite references to its consumption in ancient texts like the Vedas, written more than a millennium before the time of Muhammad. By eradicating this ‘alien’ practice, they hope to return the country to values they hold dear as Hindus,” wrote novelist Manil Suri in a New York Times op-ed.
Suri said it was part and parcel of a broader conservative cultural shift under Modi and the BJP.
“With the recent re-criminalization of gay sex, bans on controversial books and films and even an injunction against the use of the colonial-era name ‘Bombay’ instead of ‘Mumbai’ in a Bollywood song, the new laws join a growing list of restrictions on personal freedom in India,” he warned.
Since his election, Modi has said he is committed to secularism at the same time members of his party openly push to outlaw beef, the BBC’s Justin Rowlatt pointed out in April.
“That’s why while the idea of cow mug shots may be amusing, the beef ban is deadly serious,” he said. “India’s triumph has been forging a nation in which Hindus and Muslims can live happily together. The fear is that the beef ban is part of a process that is gradually undermining the compromises that made that possible.”
Rowlatt’s words proved prescient when protests erupted earlier this month in India-administered Kashmir, where the Supreme Court suddenly enforced a 83-year-old beef ban on the Muslim-majority state.
Beef again became a pretext for violence during Monday’s mob attack in Dadri, a city of roughly 60,000 near New Delhi in the northern state of Uttar Pradesh, where a near-total ban on beef is in effect.
The attack allegedly came moments after an announcement at a nearby Hindu temple that Mohammad Akhlaq had slaughtered a calf. The calf had gone missing several weeks earlier, according to the Indian Express. Rumors quickly spread around the neighborhood that Akhlaq was the culprit.
Incited by the announcement, the mob broke down Akhlaq’s door and dragged him into the street, where 100 men beat him to death with bricks, his family members told the Express. The invaders also dragged Akhlaq’s 22-year-old son, Danish, outside, beating him until he was close to death as well.
“They accused us of keeping cow meat, broke down our doors and started beating my father and brother,” Akhlaq’s daughter, Sajida, told the Express. “My father was taken outside the house and beaten to death. My brother was dragged to the courtyard downstairs and they used bricks to hit him on the head and chest, leaving him unconscious. They also tried to molest me and hit my grandmother on her face. They threatened to kill me if I said a word to the police.”
Sajida said her family had never suffered from Islamophobia in the past.
“Every time there was a feast in this house, Hindu residents of the village would attend such functions,” she said, standing in a ransacked house littered with bricks and blood splatter. “Even on [Muslim holiday] Bakr-Id, we had guests. But suddenly they started doubting us.”
Police appeared to confirm the account.
“Preliminary investigations revealed that an announcement was made from the temple” about the family consuming beef, senior superintendent of police Kiran S told the Express. “We have been told that a group of people entered the temple and used a microphone to make the announcement. However, investigations are still underway. We do not know if any of the accused are associated with the temple.”
When police detained six people, including the temple’s priest, on Tuesday, protesters set fire to two police cars. One person suffered a gunshot in the riot, although the priest was released after questioning, according to the Express.
In a cruel irony, Akhlaq’s family insists that the meat in question wasn’t even beef.
“There was some mutton in the fridge which was taken away yesterday,” Sajida told the Express. “They thought it was beef.”
“The police have taken it for examination,” she said. “If the results prove that it was not beef, will they bring back my dead father?”

Boats carrying Indians bombed between Yemen and Somalia

Sanaa - Warplanes bombed two boats carrying 20 Indian crew members as the vessels travelled between Somalia and Yemen, India's Foreign Ministry said on Wednesday, a day after the Yemeni coast guard said a Saudi-led coalition fighting Yemeni Shi'ite rebels bombed boats off the war-torn country's coast.
Thirteen crew members are alive and seven are missing, Indian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Vikas Swarup said in a statement. He said authorities are trying to gather more information. He didn't elaborate on who may have carried out the attack.
Yemeni coast guard officials said on Tuesday that a Saudi-led coalition attacked more than five boats off the Yemeni coast, the same day the Indian boats were bombed. Officials with the rebels, known as Houthis, said the boats were carrying fishermen and weren't connected to them. It wasn't immediately clear if the two incidents were the same.
Saudi Arabia is leading a coalition of mainly Gulf nations fighting the Houthis, who seized the capital, Sanaa, last September.
Yemen's rebel-controlled Ministry of Health said six civilians were killed and 10 wounded as a result of Saudi-led airstrikes in the capital Sanaa on Wednesday, as the sound of airstrikes continued into the evening.
In the city of Taiz, five civilians were killed and at least 20 wounded amid fighting between rebels and their opponents, independent security and medical officials said.
The impoverished country is torn between the Houthis, allied with army units loyal to former President Ali Abdullah Saleh, and forces loyal to exiled President Abed Rabbo Mansour Hadi. Hadi fled to Saudi Arabia in March, hours before the Saudi-led coalition began its airstrikes against the Houthis.
The conflict has killed over 2 100 civilians, according to the United Nations.
All Yemeni officials spoke on condition of anonymity because they are not authorized to brief reporters.

Saudi Arabia says criticism of Syria refugee response 'false and misleading'

The kingdom, which has not signed the UN Convention on Refugees, claims it has given residency to 100,000 people as war rages in Syria

Saudi Arabia has said reports about its response to the Syrian refugee crisis are “false and misleading” and it has in fact given residency to 100,000 people as war rages in their country.
The kingdom’s statement followed a similar defence issued by the United Arab Emirates after questions were asked about how wealthy Arab states had reacted to the outflow of more than four million Syrians.
Germany alone is expected to receive 800,000 asylum-seekers from Syria and elsewhere this year. Many more Syrians are sheltering in Jordan, Lebanon and Turkey.
No Gulf country has signed the UN Convention on Refugees, which sets standards for the treatment and rights of those fleeing to a new country. Gulf states have been among the most ardent opponents of Syrian president Bashar al-Assad, providing funds and weapons for rebel groups fighting him. But they have been portrayed as not taking any of the resulting refugees in.
An official from Saudi Arabia’s ministry of foreign affairs, cited by the official Saudi press agency, said the country did not want “to show off or brag in the media” about its response to Syria, where civil war began four years ago.
“However, it sees the importance of clarifying these efforts in response to false and misleading media reports about the kingdom,” the unnamed official said.
Saudi Arabia “made it a point not to deal with them as refugees” but had issued residency permits to 100,000 Syrians who wished to stay in the kingdom, the official said.
“With that came the right to free education, healthcare and employment according to a royal decree in 2012 that also states that Syrian students visiting the kingdom be admitted in public schools,” the official added.
The kingdom had supported Syrian refugees in Jordan, Lebanon and other countries in co-ordination with the host countries, while providing a total of about $700m in humanitarian aid, he said.
At the same time Saudi Arabia and its neighbours in 2014 joined a US-led military coalition bombing extremist Islamic State group rebels in Syria.

Crane Collapse at Mecca's Grand Mosque Kills at Least 107 People

Bloodshed and Horror After Falling Crane Kills 107 at Mecca's Grand Mosque 1:47
RIYADH, Saudi Arabia — A towering construction crane toppled over on Friday during a violent rainstorm in the Saudi city of Mecca, Islam's holiest site, crashing into the Grand Mosque and killing at least 107 people ahead of the start of the annual hajj pilgrimage later this month.
Images posted by social media users showed a grisly scene, with police and onlookers attending to numerous bodies lying amid pools of blood on the polished mosque floors.
Saudi Arabia's civil defense authority provided a series of rising casualty numbers on its official Twitter account as ambulances whisked the wounded to area hospitals. As of early Saturday, it said those injured in the disaster numbered 238.
A photo released by the authority showed police and workers in hardhats inspecting a pile of collapsed concrete slabs inside a part of the sprawling, ornately decorated mosque. Another showed the base of the toppled red-and-white crane tilted upward at a sharp angle.
Ahmed bin Mohammed al-Mansouri, the spokesman for the presidency of the Mecca and Medina mosque affairs, said in a statement carried by the official Saudi Press Agency that the accident happened late Friday afternoon during a severe storm carrying strong winds and heavy rain.
The governor of the Mecca region, Prince Khalid al-Faisal, quickly called for the formation of a committee to investigate the cause of the accident. He directed all appropriate authorities to provide support for all of those injured, according to a statement from Mecca principality public affairs head Sultan al-Dosari that was carried on SPA.

Video Shows Moment of Mecca Crane Collapse 0:21
Several cranes surround the mosque to support an ongoing expansion and other construction work that has transformed the area around the sanctuary.
Steep hills and low-rise traditional buildings that once surrounded the mosque have in recent years given way to shopping malls and luxury hotels — among them the world's third-tallest building, a giant clock tower that is the centerpiece of the Abraj al-Bait complex.
The construction giant Saudi Binladin Group is leading the mosque expansion and also built the Abraj al-Bait project.
The Binladin family has been close to the ruling Al Saud family for decades and oversees major building projects around the country. The Binladin family disowned one of its many members, late al Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden, in the 1990s.
It was not immediately clear who owned the crane that collapsed.
The Grand Mosque and the cube-shaped Kaaba within it draw Muslims of all types from around the world throughout the year, though numbers increase significantly in the run-up to the hajj. The mosque is Islam's holiest site to which Muslims face in daily prayers and a central site among the hajj rituals.
Performing the pilgrimage once during one's lifetime is a duty for all able-bodied adult Muslims. This year's pilgrimage is expected to start around Sept. 22

FBI says 'Australian IS jihadist' is actually a Jewish American troll named Joshua Ryne Goldberg

US man accused of 9/11 memorial bomb plot

A 20-year-old whose online identity was 'Australi Witness' - an ISIS agent apparently living in Perth - has been arrested at his parents' place in Florida over plotting a bomb attack at a 9/11 memorial event.
A young Jewish American man has been charged with pretending to be an Australian-based Islamic State jihadist after a FBI joint investigation with the Australian Federal Police based on information provided by Fairfax Media.
Joshua Ryne Goldberg, a 20-year old living at his parents' house in US state of Florida, is accused of posing online as "Australi Witness," an IS supporter who publicly called for a series of attacks against individuals and events in western countries.
In recent days Australi Witness has claimed online that he is working with other jihadists to plan attacks in Australia and the United States. He distributed pictures of a bomb that he was working on with "2 lbs of explosives inside".
Joshua Goldberg Joshua Goldberg
Early on Friday, Australian time, Goldberg, who is non-Muslim and has no real-world links with extremism, was arrested at his home by Florida police for "distribution of information relating to explosives, destructive devices, and weapons of mass destruction".
Australian national security and citizenship laws were strengthened last year to create a new offence of advocating terrorism, partly to stop online recruitment of jihadists, and Prime Minister Tony Abbott earlier this year allocated significant funding to security agencies because "too many Australians are being brainwashed online by this death cult".

However, one of those apparent representatives of Islamic State has now been revealed as an America-based, non-Muslim online hoaxer.
The Australian Federal Police do not intend to apply for Goldberg's extradition, but said in a statement that he faced a 20-year prison term if convicted.
"Investigations by the AFP in June 2015 established no initial threat to the Australian community. When investigations determined it was likely the person responsible for these threats was based in the United States, the investigation became the jurisdiction of the FBI, with the AFP in a support role."
AFP Acting Deputy Commissioner National Security Neil Gaughan alleged Goldberg had "relied on the internet providing a cloak of anonymity".
"This operation again highlights how law enforcement can investigate people in the online space and use our long-established partnerships to work with overseas agencies to bring people to account for their actions".
An affidavit sworn at the time of the arrest says that, between August 19 and August 28, Mr Goldberg "distributed information pertaining to the manufacturing of explosives, destructive devices, or weapons of mass destruction in furtherance of an activity that constitutes a Federal crime of violence".
US Attorney Lee Bentley III, said Goldberg instructed a confidential source how to make a bomb similar to two used in the Boston Marathon bombings two years ago that killed three people and injured more than 260 others.
He allegedly instructed someone how to fill the bomb with nails, metal and other items dipped in rat poison.
Police base the charge on his communication of five web links to sites that provided instructions that could be used to make explosives as part of a plot to explode a bomb on September 13 at a memorial ceremony in Kansas City, commemorating the 9/11 the terrorist attacks.
The affidavit, released by Special agent William Berry of US Customs and Border Protection, says that Goldberg had initially denied to officers that he had any involvement with distributing information on how to make a bomb, but then later admitted it.
"Goldberg further admitted that he believed the information would create a genuine bomb," Agent Berry alleged.
However, Goldberg also claimed that he meant for the person he was communicating with to either kill himself creating the bomb or, that Goldberg intended to warn police in time so that he would receive "credit for stopping the attack".
In conversations with Fairfax Media, which were also cited in the affidavit, Mr Goldberg had said he did not expect any jihadist to actually carry out an attack because: "These guys are pussy keyboard warriors".
Fairfax media can also reveal that Goldberg, as Australi Witness, is suspected of a number of other online hoaxes, including posing online as prominent Australian lawyer, Josh Bornstein.
Australi Witness's online actions might have had fatal real-world consequences in May.
In the leadup to an exhibition in Garland, Texas, at which pictures of the Prophet Mohammed were to be displayed, "Australi Witness" tweeted the event's address and reposted a tweet urging people to go there with "weapons, bombs or with knifes".
Two Muslim men attempted an attack at the exhibition, and were killed by police. Australi Witness then praised them online as martyrs.

Thomas Friedman: Saudis add to Mideast's instability

timesunion

Published 5:49 pm, Thursday, September 3, 2015
The Washington Post ran a story last week about 200 retired generals and admirals who sent a letter to Congress "urging lawmakers to reject the Iran nuclear agreement, which they say threatens national security." There are legitimate arguments for and against this deal, but there was one argument expressed in this story that was so dangerously wrongheaded about the real threats to the United States from the Middle East, it needs to be called out.
That argument was from Lt. Gen. Thomas McInerney, the retired former vice commander of U.S. Air Forces in Europe, who said of the nuclear accord: "What I don't like about this is, the No. 1 leading radical Islamic group in the world is the Iranians. They are purveyors of radical Islam throughout the region and throughout the world. And we are going to enable them to get nuclear weapons."
Sorry, general, but the title greatest "purveyors of radical Islam" does not belong to the Iranians. Not even close. That belongs to our putative ally Saudi Arabia.
When it comes to Iran's involvement in terrorism, I have no illusions: I covered firsthand the 1983 suicide bombings of the U.S. Embassy and the U.S. Marine barracks in Beirut, both believed to be the handiwork of Iran's cat's paw, Hezbollah. Iran's terrorism, though — vis-a-vis the U.S. — has always been of the geopolitical variety: war by other means to push the U.S. out of the region so Iran can dominate it, not us.
I support the Iran nuclear deal because it reduces the chances of Iran building a bomb for 15 years and creates the possibility that Iran's radical religious regime can be moderated through more integration with the world.
But if you think Iran is the only source of trouble in the Middle East, you must have slept through 9/11, when 15 of the 19 hijackers came from Saudi Arabia. Nothing has been more corrosive to the stability and modernization of the Arab world, and the Muslim world at large, than the billions and billions of dollars the Saudis have invested since the 1970s into wiping out the pluralism of Islam — the Sufi, moderate Sunni and Shiite versions — and imposing in its place the puritanical, anti-modern, anti-women, anti-Western, anti-pluralistic Wahhabi Salafist brand of Islam promoted by the Saudi religious establishment.
It is not an accident that several thousand Saudis have joined the Islamic State or that Arab Gulf charities have sent the Islamic State donations. It is because all these Sunni jihadi groups — Islamic State, al-Qaida, the Nusra Front — are the ideological offspring of the Wahhabism injected by Saudi Arabia into mosques and madrassas from Morocco to Pakistan to Indonesia.
And we, America, have never called them on that — because we're addicted to their oil, and addicts never tell the truth to their pushers.
Consider this July 16, 2014, story in The New York Times from Beirut: "For decades, Saudi Arabia has poured billions of its oil dollars into sympathetic Islamic organizations around the world, quietly practicing checkbook diplomacy to advance its agenda. But a trove of thousands of Saudi documents recently released by WikiLeaks reveals in surprising detail how the government's goal in recent years was not just to spread its strict version of Sunni Islam — though that was a priority — but also to undermine its primary adversary: Shiite Iran."
Or consider this Dec 5, 2010, report on BBC.com: "U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton warned last year in a leaked classified memo that donors in Saudi Arabia were the 'most significant source of funding to Sunni terrorist groups worldwide.' She said it was 'an ongoing challenge' to persuade Saudi officials to treat such activity as a strategic priority. The groups funded include al-Qaida, the Taliban and Lashkar-e-Taiba, she added."
Saudi Arabia has been a U.S. ally on many issues and there are moderates there who detest its religious authorities. But the fact remains that Saudi Arabia's export of Wahhabi puritanical Islam has been one of the worst things to happen to Muslim and Arab pluralism in the last century.
Iran's nuclear ambition is a real threat; it needs to be corralled. But don't buy into the nonsense that it's the only source of instability in this region.
Thomas L. Friedman writes for The New York Times.

EU refugee crisis ‘absolutely expected’ – Putin

RT
Russian President Vladimir Putin © Evgeny Byatov
Russia has frequently warned of major problems which Europe would face as a result of Western policies in the Middle East and North Africa and jihadist groups terrorizing people, so the current refugee crisis in the EU doesn’t come as a surprise, said the President of Russia.
“I think the crisis was absolutely expected,” President Vladimir Putin told journalists at the Eastern Economic Forum in Vladivostok.
“We in Russia, and me personally a few years ago, said it straight that pervasive problems would emerge, if our so-called Western partners continue maintaining their flawed ... foreign policy, especially in the regions of the Muslim world, Middle East, North Africa, which they pursue to date,” said Putin.
LIVE UPDATES: Worst refugee crisis since WWII
According to the Russian president, the main flaw of Western foreign policy is the imposition of their own standards worldwide without taking into account the historical, religious, national and cultural characteristics of particular regions.
The only way to reverse the refugee flow streaming into Europe is to help people resolve problems at home. And the first step should be by creating a common and united front against jihadist groups such as Islamic State (IS, formerly ISIS/ISIL) and fighting them at their core.
“We really want to form some kind of an international coalition, therefore we conduct consultations with our US partners,” Putin said, noting that he spoke about it with President Obama.
However it is premature to discuss “direct” Russian involvement in military actions against ISIS, needless to say joining the US-led coalition, as Moscow is currently considering “other options,” said Putin.
The issue of rebuilding local economies and social spheres to convince terrified people to move back would only arise after terrorism is rooted out, Russian President said. But international support for rebuilding the statehood of the countries which have suffered at the hand of ISIS should only occur with full respect for history, culture and local traditions.
“But if we act unilaterally and argue about the quasi-democratic principles and procedures for certain areas, that will lead us to an even greater impasse,” Putin concluded.
The Russian leader emphasized that he was being critical to figure out “what is happening, and what to do next,” rather than to tease or to point out that Western policies were “shortsighted.”
Putin noted that the US is not facing a refugee crisis of the same magnitude as the EU, which has been “blindly following American orders.”
Prior to Putin’s speech, the Russian Foreign Ministry said that the EU could actually learn something from Russia in terms of offering proper living conditions to those fleeing conflict zones.
Reminding Brussels of Russia’s experience in dealing with the influx of civilians fleeing Kiev’s so-called “anti-terrorist operation” in neighboring Ukraine, the ministry's spokeswoman, Maria Zakharova said that hundreds of thousands of refugees who fled to Russia were provided with “shelter, food and aid.”

Qatar Offers Yego Ksh1 billion to ditch Kenyan Citizenship and become a Qatari

Kenya’s youtube athlete and world javelin champion Julius yego might soon ditch Kenyan citizenship for the Qatar one if all goes according to the Qatar government. According to word that has began making rounds in Beijing, Qatar officials were spotted in the athlete’s hotel room in Beijing immediately he won gold for Kenya and tried to persuade him to accept the convincing offer.
A hotel attendant (a Qatari national) who did not not want his name disclosed told Bandao Broadcasting Media Corporation that three men asked him about Yego’s whereabouts including the room he had checked in. After refusing to show him, they had to disclose to him that they had been sent by the government to convince the recently concluded IAAF World Championships gold medalist to accept the Qatai citizenship and play for them. They only confined to him after realizing that he was one of their own. They even disclosed the amount they wanted to offer Yego telling him that when Yego becomes Qatari and wins gold for Qatar, he too will be proud as a Qatari.
It is then that the man decided to direct them to Yego’s room although Yego turned down the offer saying he was proud being Kenyan. After Yego declined, they told him to go and think about it and should he change his mind, call the number that they wrote down for him. When POLITICA contacted the Chinese Ambassador Zhou Yuxiao, he denied the allegations saying he has not heard anything like that.
The Qatari government is known for its tendency of poaching talented sportsmen and women from their native countries by hoodwinking the with fortunes. They once tried to buy former Harambee Striker Dennis Oliech by offering him Ksh200 million but the striker turned down the offer.

According to MSNBC, Trump’s remarks did not augur well with a handful of people and they jeered him all the way. According to Trump, Kenyans including Obama are conmen who dope and cheat on their way to the top.
He reiterated categorically that it is the US that won and not Kenya.Trump congratulated the US athletes for winning the IAAF World Championships in Beijing although they were not officially pronounced winners.

Zimbabwe: President Robert Mugabe to Propose Marriage to Obama

African News Today

Mugabe to propose marriage to Obama President Robert Mugabe of Zimbabwe, the man popular known by the some folks in the West as “Mad Bob” is at it again. Reacting to the announcement of the 5 to 4 ruling of the U.S Supreme Court that now legalizes gay marriage in all 50 states of the union, Mugabe said that based on this development, he will now proceed to the U.S and ask for Obama’s hand in marriage.
In his usual Anti-U.S attacks, Mugabe said “I’ve just concluded since President Obama endorses the same-sex marriage, advocates homosexual people and enjoys an attractive countenance thus if it becomes necessary , I shall travel to Washington DC, get down on my knee, and ask his hand.” It is no doubt that there is no love lost between Mugabe and many Western leaders. he does not hide his ill feelings towards them and they do not hide theirs towards him.
Mugabe continued by saying “I can’t understand how this people dare to defy Christ’s explicit orders as our Lord prohibited mankind from sodomy.” In addition to these, he is quoted to have said that the U.S is controlled by “perverted Satan-worshipers who insult the great American nation.”
Mugabe has joined the millions of people around Africa and indeed the rest of the world who have expressed deep dismay at the ruling of the U.S supreme court. His stance on gay relationships has never been in doubt. In fact, during a campaign in 2013, Mugabe said “We have this American president – Obama, born of an African father, who is saying we will not give you aid if you don’t embrace homosexuality. We ask, was he born out of homosexuality?”
Zimbabwe frowns seriously at gay relationships. Mugabe had publicly said he regards anyone involved in gay relationships as being lower than goats, pigs and birds. He actually told them to go to hell! Mugabe’s stance on homosexuality is so strong that he said in 2013 – “Let Europe keep their homosexual nonsense there and live with it. We will never have it here. The act [of homosexuality] is not humane,” He also stated categorically that “Any diplomat who talks about homosexuality will be kicked out. There is no excuse and we won’t listen to them.”

USA: Donald Trump to Blacks: Go Back to Africa

African News Today

Donald Trump to Blacks: Go Back to Africa American billionaire business mogul, Donald Trump has been in the news for a while now and not all for good reasons. His Presidential bid is suffering serious damage as his racist tendencies are coming to the fore. Speaking on the issue of white crimes against blacks currently causing some furrow in the U.S, Trump said “If you think we kill you too much? Go somewhere where you’re gonna just kill more of each other.”
Trump is said to have advised blacks to go back to Africa if they feel their lives don’t matter here. His actual statement was said to be “if black lives don’t matter here go back to Africa.” Saying that this statement is sad coming from someone so highly placed who is also running for the seat of the President of the United States of America is putting it very lightly.
In an attempt to explain himself, Trump dug his grave deeper by saying “It’s impossible for me to be racist. I employ 100’s of Blacks and Mexicans as maids in my Trump Tower hotels”
Trump has been accused of several racist statements. In fact, NBC had to severe its relationship with him as a result of a recent racist statement. Trump had in a statement while announcing his bid for Presidency said “The U.S. has become a dumping ground for everybody else’s problems,” he said. “When Mexico sends its people, they’re not sending their best. They’re not sending you. They’re sending people that have lots of problems, and they’re bringing those problems with us. They’re bringing drugs. They’re bringing crime. They’re rapists. And some, I assume, are good people.”
This statement sparked off a lot of protests and over 200,000 person signed a petition which pressured NBC into distancing itself from Trump, resulting in their business relationship being severed. This means that The Miss USA pageant and Miss Universe pageant, shows co-owned by Trump and NBC will no longer air on the network.
