Mogadishu — The political Somali Peace Alliance has greatly welcomed Djiboutian peacekeeping forces to come to Somalia to be part of the efforts to restore the peace and stability of the country.
Abdullahi Sheik Hassan, the chairperson of the alliance held press conference in Mogadishu shortly after having meeting with Hawiye traditional elders, Somali women and some of the Islamist clerics of Ahlu Sunna Waljama. He said they would welcome a statement from the Djiboutian government over plans peacekeeping forces from Djibouti to be sent to Somalia.
"What I can say to you, is that Djiboutian troops will not be foreigners as they arrive in Mogadishu or rest of the country. We shall welcome them with open hands indeed," said Mr. Abdullahi Sheik Hassan
There are 9,000 African Union troops from Uganda and Burundi in the Somali capital Mogadishu and helping the transitional government troops.
The statement from the Somali Peace Alliance comes as the Djiboutian government announced it would send more troops to Somalia to be part of the African Union troops in Somalia.
