SOMALIA: Senior aid worker and his driver killed in central Somalia

Mogadishu (RBC) Unidentified assailants killed senior Somali national aid worker and his driver near in Galgadudregion of central Somalia, officials told RBC Radio.
Abdikarin Hashi Kadiye, deputy director of Towfik local NGO and his driver were killed in an ambush attack late Thursday while they were driving to Guriel district in Galgadud region.
Local sources told RBC Radio that assailants used RPG7 and small guns for the 4WD vehicle which reasoned the death of the two people as the vehicle was burnt down.
Reports from the district say that officials of Ahlusuna administration sent emergency troops to the scene but there was no one arrested for the attack.
Osman Nur, deputy commissioner of Guriel told RBC Radio that they did not recognize who was behind the attack. He added that they will investigate the accident.
Towfik is local contractor NGO to UN’s World Food Programme [WFP]. The agency is responsible in distributing the food aid to internal displaced people in central Somalia.
The attack follows after armed man killed two Somali national WFP staff in Mataban district in Hiran region last month making the delivery of assistance to vulnerable people increasingly difficult.
