Despite intensified patrolling, the potential for violence erupting again in Upper Nile state remains high.
Any hopes of a peaceful resolution to the problems of Upper Nile, a war-torn region on the border with north, have been dashed after a ceasefire accord signed between a rebel leader, George Athor, and the Southern Sudanese army crumbled. Some groups have surrendered to the army but others like Athor refuse. Al Jazeera's Haru Mutasa reports from Malakal in Upper Nile state. |
