Bahraini protesters stage new rallies in Manama, demanding the ruling Al Khalifa regime to release its grip on power in the Persian Gulf island, Press TV reports.

Bahraini activists took to the streets of the capital on Thursday, setting up road-blocks around the city.

The protesters said they used tires and anything big enough to close off a road.

They said they had to cover their faces as they reached sensitive areas in the heart of Manama, where many government cameras record every movement.

On November 23, the Bahrain Independent Commission of Inquiry said the regime had used “excessive force” to crush pro-democracy protests.

The independent commission urged the Bahraini government to revise verdicts handed down to protesters in military courts, and to set up a compensation fund for victims of the crackdown.

Bahrain's brutal crackdown on anti-regime protests has killed scores of people since the eruption of the popular revolution in the Persian Gulf sheikhdom in mid-February.

In mid-March, the United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia sent troops and military equipment to Bahrain upon a request from Manama to help quell the uprising.

Bahraini protesters have nevertheless been staging regular demonstrations against the Al Khalifa regime despite the brutal crackdowns, vowing to continue the revolution until their demands are met.

The ruling regime in Bahrain hosts the US Navy's Fifth Fleet.
