Yemeni demonstrators have once again taken to the streets in the capital Sana'a to call for the trial of Ali Abdullah Saleh, Press TV reports.

On Tuesday, anti-regime demonstrators in Sana'a accused Saleh and other government officials of corruption.

Similar demonstrations have also been held in several other cities in the country.

Yemeni protesters hold Saleh responsible for the killing of hundreds of people since the beginning of the uprising in late January.

Saleh transferred power to Vice President Abdrabuh Mansur Hadi under a deal brokered by the (Persian) Gulf Cooperation Council. The Yemeni dictator signed the deal in the Saudi capital, Riyadh, on Wednesday.

Under the deal, Saleh will get immunity from prosecution in return for the power transfer. However, Yemeni protesters reject any deal giving immunity to the Yemeni dictator, whose son and three nephews still hold powerful posts in the security services.

On Saturday, Hadi announced February 21 as the date of the presidential election in the country, which will be the first in Yemen since 2006.

Meanwhile, UN special envoy to Yemen Jamal Benomar said on Monday that UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon “is fully committed to supporting the transition [of power] through and beyond elections… to help Yemenis address the political, humanitarian, security and economic challenges ahead.”

UN Security Council Resolution 2014, which was unanimously passed on October 21, expressed “grave concern” about the situation in Yemen.

On Monday, UN Security Council President José Filipe Moraes Cabral said, “The members of the Security Council reiterated that all those responsible for violence, human rights violations and abuses [in Yemen] should be held accountable.”

The Yemeni vice president appointed head of the opposition coalition Mohammed Basindawa as the new prime minster on Sunday.

Basindawa is tasked with forming a national unity government within two weeks.
