More than half of the respondents at Al Arabiya
highlighted autonomy as a significant predictor of their job

Al Arabiya employees are enjoying “high level of job
satisfaction” in correlation “with their feeling of editorial freedom,” a
recently published academic research study shows.
The study was conducted by Mohammed el-Nawawy from Queens University of Charlotte and Catherine Strong from Massey University and sought to investigate the perceptions of job satisfaction and editorial freedom in the newsroom.
According to the study, 78 percent of the channel’s employees were highly satisfied with their jobs, a result the authors said “was not unusual” because similarly high satisfaction was found among journalists in countries with high media freedom such as Great Britain (78 percent) and Finland (84 percent).

By obtaining full access to interview staff and executives in Al Arabiya’s headquarters in Dubai’s Media City, El-Nawawy and Strong managed to obtain a 94 percent response rate. The study showed that 60 percent of the workers at Al Arabiya said that “job security” is very important to them, and that makes them prefer working for al Arabiya over any other place.
By job security, Al Arabiya news workers meant that the company was financially and politically stable, and that they would not arbitrarily lose their jobs.
