TEHRAN (FNA)- Tehran's embassy in Beirut plans to hold a conference on dialogue between Islam and Christianity, a senior Iranian diplomat announced on Wednesday.

The announcement came during a meeting between Iran's Ambassador to Lebanon Qazanfar Roknabadi and Lebanese Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri in Beirut.

Roknabadi said that the conference is organized by embassy's cultural attaché and the Arab Center for Islam-Christianity Dialogue.

The conference will be held on January 16-17, 2012 in Beirut with Muslim and Christian scholars from Palestine, Iraq, Syria, Egypt and Iran in attendance.

The Lebanese parliament speaker, for his part, described the conference as "valuable", and noted, "Under present conditions, we need dialogue more than ever and the Islamic Republic of Iran's move for holding the conference is a very important and vital step given the sectarian structure of the Lebanese society and the current sensitive juncture."

Senior Iranian officials specially President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad have always stressed the country's full respect for all divine faiths and religions.
