Argentines stage rally against Mubarak, Zionism

Hundreds gathered outside Argentina's famous obelisk, an icon of Buenos Aires, to show support for the revolution in Egypt and demand an end to imperialist, pro-Israel politics.

Stopping the peak hour traffic, the protesters marched down the city's main avenues calling for Argentina's President Cristina Kirchner to cut off ties with Egyptian president Hosni Mubarak.

Activists also gathered at the Israeli embassy - which was protected by dozens of police in riot gear - where a demonstration was underway to denounce Zionism in Egyptian, American and Argentine politics.

Across Latin America, the United States and Canada protesters are also standing in solidarity with the revolution in Egypt.

They have joined in calling for Hosni Mubarak to step down. However, the governments, including Argentina, are saying that they cannot interfere in Egypt's internal affairs.

People here have a long history of showing support for Muslim nations, as seen by Argentine's government's recent endorsement of Palestine as a sovereign state.

As Argentines continue to fight for their government to cut relations with Egypt, the movement is a sign of the growing solidarity between Argentina and Arab nations.
