MOGADISHU – About 10 of the Islamist clerics of Ahlu Sunna Waljaa’a have been killed and more than 15 others wounded shortly after al-shabab fighters targeted military bases of Ahlu sunna in the Somali capital Mogadishu, according to official, witnesses on Monday.
Mohamed Mohamud Aser, a spokesman for Ahlu Sunna said that there had been many mortar shells landed around Mo’allin Nor mosque in parts of Hodan district in Mogadishu indicting that 4 of the their men died in the spot as 8 others wounded who were reportedly rushed to hospitals.
There were conflicting reports indicating that blasts exploded around a base of Ahlu Sunna in Hodan that caused casualties of deaths and injuries while reports said mortar attacks were targeted in the area.
The areas where the shelling targeted were controlled by al-shabab forces earlier before the transitional government troops, Ahlu Sunna and the African Union troops defeated al-shabab forces in the past recent days.
There had been sporadic gunfire between the two sides that could be heard in several neighborhoods in Hodan according to some of the residents adding that they could see several died and wounded people deploying from Sigale neighborhood in the district.
Al-shabab did not yet claim the responsibility of the attack against Ahlu Sunna Walama’a who lost their men in the shelling and the storm comes days after al-shabab reiterating big offensive revenging for the deceased leader of Al-qaeda Osmaam Bin Laden recently killed in Pakistan.
