Saudi soldiers deploy near the border with Yemen
Saudi Arabia's Interior Ministry says two border guards have been killed and one wounded by a man trying to cross into Yemen with a large amount of ammunition.

Interior Ministry spokesman Mansour al-Turki said the attacker was also killed in the exchange of fire.

The shooting took place in the southern province of Najran early on Tuesday.

The man shot at the guards with an automatic weapon while driving a jeep, state news agency SPA reported.

The spokesman said a colonel and a sergeant were shot dead and another sergeant was wounded.

He added that the ministry launched an investigation to find out the assailant's identity.

Yemen is the scene of clashes between opposition tribesmen and troops loyal to President Ali Abdullah Saleh.

On Tuesday, the clashes between the two sides killed at least 19 people, including three children, across the Arab state.

Anti-government protesters, who have turned out for rallies in the major Yemeni cities since late January, called for a swift transfer of power in the country.
