A film claiming to portray the “secret lives” of Saudi Arabia's royal family has reached the production stage. “The Weaknesses of King Fahd” will tell the life story of a Palestinian woman who says she was the wife of late Saudi King Fahd bin Abdulaziz al-Saud.
Janan Harb, now 68, claims she was married to the then 47-year-old Fahd in 1968 when he was still crown prince and the interior minister.
The movie is being directed by British director Malcolm Walker, the Middle East Eye reported on Tuesday.
The film will depict aspects of Fahd's life such as frequenting casinos in London, using drugs and forcing Harb to have three abortions as he did not want “little Arafats (referring to former leader of Palestine Liberation Organization, Yasser Arafat) running about the palace.”
Harb says although Fahd would not appreciate the film if he was still alive, it "has to come out" as "no one in the whole world knows exactly how they live inside their palaces.”
Walker said that apart from Fahd the film will also prominently feature current Saudi King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud.
Harb claims she knew Salman when she lived in the Saudi royal palace. “He is not one of the nice people." She says. “He didn’t have a good reputation, he was very aggressive.”
She also says that it was Salman who made her leave the kingdom in 1970.
Harb also claims before his death, Fahd promised to support her financially for the rest of her life, but his son Prince Abdul Aziz refused to honor his father’s vow and obey a court order to give her an amount of £12 million (USD 16.9 million) plus two luxurious London flats.
In November, she won a case in the British High Court according to which the prince was ordered to deliver on his father’s promise.
