PORTSMOUTH — Police on Thursday charged a
81-year-old city man with 25 crimes alleging rape, sodomy and incest of a
child during the early 1970s.
Arrested was Souran B. Manougian, aka “Buddha Babe”, of 20 Islington St., Apt. 303.
Manougian was charged with eight counts of
forcible rape, seven counts of forcible sodomy, five counts of incest,
three counts of tampering with witnesses and informants and separate
counts of aggravated assault and criminal restraint.
Detective Capt. Corey MacDonald said in a statement that the charges are based on the law in 1973 and 1974.
MacDonald said the victim is alleged to have been assaulted beginning at the age of 6 and up to the age of 14.
“The
victim in this case did sustain injuries that required medical
treatment at the time, and which continue to require treatment,”
according to MacDonald.
The victim's identity is not being released.
MacDonald said the case was brought to the attention of local police last month.
Following
his arrest, Manougian was released on $250 cash bail and $10,000
personal recognizance bail. He is expected to be arraigned in Portsmouth
District Court on May 7.
Meanwhile, police
are asking that anyone with information regarding the case or Manougian
call Detective Kristyn Bernier at 610-7529. Anonymous tips may be left
