The top UN envoy in Somalia has condemned a suicide attack which killed at least five people in the capital, Mogadishu, on Wednesday.
The militant group Al-Shabaab has claimed responsibility for the blast.
Charles Appel reports.
The attack took place outside the presidential palace, seat of Somalia's Transitional Federal Government.
Dr. Augustine Mahiga, Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General in Somalia, called on Al-Shabaab to immediately cease attacks which he described as "in complete disregard of the value of human life."
The UN envoy said such acts of terrorism will not derail the peace process in Somalia.
According to Dr. Mahiga, the people of Mogadishu have recently begun to see the dividends of security and stability.
Citizens also have played a role in foiling terrorist attempts and identifying explosive objects, he adds.
