Somalia: Iran's 9th Cargo of Humanitarian Aid Sent to Somalia

Tehran — Iranian Red Crescent Society (IRCS) Thursday forwarded its ninth planeload of humanitarian aid to the famine-stricken African state of Somalia, IRNA reported.
The cargo included medicine, foodstuff and other necessities of life, an official at the IRCS told.
Iran has, so far, sent 300 tons of humanitarian aid to the drought- and famine-stricken African state.

Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei on August 15 called on Iranians to rush to the aid of the Muslim people of Somalia.
More than three million Somalis are at risk of starvation in Somalia, where a state of famine has been declared by the United Nations.
According to aid agencies, the drought is the worst in decades to hit Somalia, which has been without a functioning government since warlords overthrew the country's dictator Mohamed Siad Barre in 1991.
The World Bank has warned in a new report that over the last three months 29,000 children under the age of five have died of malnutrition and starvation in the country.
