A man burnt himself and his two daughters to death after a row with his wife.
Mr Anthony Nduati 33, had differed with his wife over sale of the family cow.
His wife had opposed the move, saying, the animal was their only source of income.
Nyandarua deputy police boss Jacob Kanake said: “It
was after the quarrel that he took his two daughters, locked them and
himself in the house and set it ablaze after dousing it with petrol
where they all perished”.
Neighbours fought frantically to put out the fire, but it was too late to save Mr Nduati and his daughters aged seven and five.
The late afternoon incident left residents of Kamukunji Village in Ngano location shocked.
Mr Nduati’s wife, who had left when her husband
threatened to commit the act, fainted when she rushed back home to find
charred remains her family.
The remains were taken to Nyahururu District Hospital Mortuary.
Two other suicide cases were reported in Nyandarua County,
bringing the death toll caused by suicides over the weekend to five.
Mr Samuel Nderitu, 35, was found dead in his house in Ol Kalou Township in Nyandarua Central District.
He is suspected to have committed suicide after his
lifeless body was found hanging from the roof of his house. The body
was taken to Ol Kalou District Hospital mortuary.
Mr Charles Mwendia, 83, was also found hanging in
his house in a suspected suicide in Kanyagia Village of Ndaragwa
Division, Nyandarua North District.
The body was taken to Nyahururu District Hospital mortuary.
