Marie Dedieu was kidnapped from her house on Manda Island in Kenya on October 1, 2011.
Kenya has arrested five Somalis suspected of involvement in the abduction of an elderly French woman on Manda Island of the Lamu Archipelago, Press TV reports.
On Friday, Kenyan police officials confirmed that the five suspects were arrested during a house-to-house operation in Nairobi.
The police said they believe the Somali suspects provided information that facilitated the kidnapping of Marie Dedieu, who is currently being held in the Kismayu district of Jubbada Hoose province of Somalia.
On October 1, a group of gunmen kidnapped Dedieu from her home on Manda Island, which is located close to the Kenya-Somalia border. Dedieu requires the use of a wheelchair and is on medication.
The captors of the 66-year-old hostage said they would allow her to receive her medication, but they have made no demands for ransom.
On Monday, Kenyan security forces arrested another man in connection with the kidnapping.
Dedieu's abduction is the second in the area in less than one month.
Unidentified gunmen attacked the remote Kenyan village of Kiwayu Safari in the early hours of September 11, shooting dead publishing executive David Tebbutt, 58, and taking his wife Judith hostage before escaping by boat.
The British woman was taken to the Somali port town of Kismayu, located about 500 kilometers (310 miles) south of Mogadishu.
Kenyan President Mwai Kibaki said on Friday that Kenya will use all means necessary to defend its borders.
“We would like to remind any external forces who threaten our peace that as a country we stand ready to defend our nation's territorial integrity,” Kibaki said in an apparent reference to the recent kidnapping incidents.
